Okay, bailed on the old gig, now at a new one. Much better for me, including bigger problems! -- View image here: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif --
First item is a doozie. Trying to develop a standard Altiris image for notebooks to be deployed to over 50 schools across 5 states. It's much easier if the wireless is pre-configured as part of the rollout. However, we are finding that once Sysprep is run on the master image, it removes the WEP key.
One of my teammates contacted MS about this and their answer is that this is an intended result of using Sysprep because Sysprep de-installs all network adapters. Altiris isn't that helpful because of limitations on generating machine names, so I can't use their post-config routine to advantage, either.
So, I am wondering if anyone else has run into this, and what they have done to get around it. Right now we simply would have the Tech Facilitator at the school manually configure the WEP key after a re-image. It would be nice to eliminate that step. I should mention that our current Win2k images do not have this problem, just Win XP Pro w/ SP1. (It was also tested in SP2, RC1 with similar results.)
We are open to just about anything as long as it's a freebie.
Lemme know what you think, and TIA!!!
